Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has termed International Monetary Fund (IMF) Pakistan chief Nathan Porter’s recent statement — which is being seen as a comment on the country’s political situation — “meddling in our internal affairs”.

While the IMF usually does not comment on domestic politics, in a statement on Tuesday, Porter said the IMF hopes “a peaceful way forward is found in line with the Constitution and the rule of law”.

Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Dr Aisha Ghaus Pasha has already responded to the comment, saying that the IMF Pakistan chief should not “interfere in politically domestic” matters.

Nazir Ahmed elected GB Assembly speaker unopposed. Deputy Speaker Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Nazir Ahmed has been elected unopposed as the Speaker of GB Assembly.

Earlier, the Speaker of Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Syed Amjad Ali Zaidi was removed from office through a no-confidence motion.

During secret voting, Syed Amjad Ali Zaidi got only one vote out of 22, while 21 votes were in favor of the motion of no-confidence.

The Pakistan Cricket Board today confirmed Mickey Arthur’s appointment as the Director of the Pakistan men’s cricket team. PCB have appointed former head coach Mickey Arthur as the Director of the Pakistan men’s cricket team.

Arthur’s responsibilities in this position include developing, implementing, and supervising the tactics used by the Pakistan men’s squad.

The 54-year-old South African will also serve as a member of the coaching staff for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, as well as for the home series against the West Indies and the away tour to Australia.

The National Assembly on Tuesday passed the Contempt of Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) Bill, 2023.

The bill moved by Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon is aimed at condemning and awarding punishment for the actions that account for breach of the sovereignty and integrity of the Parliament.

In his remarks, Minister for Education Rana Tanveer said such laws need to be framed to further improve the functioning of the parliament.
